Accreditation is a quality assurance process that programs undergo to confirm that they meet a strict and recognized set of service and operational standards.
The importance of accreditation is that it creates a set of quality standards for all programs which are valued and required by employers worldwide. Furthermore, accreditation aims to ensure accountability of programs which boosts public trust and confidence. When a program is properly accredited, you are able to gauge its overall quality without having to conduct a detailed analysis on your own.
As a part of our oversight roles, ACTEFLC holds accredited institutions accountable by ensuring that a program’s courses and related services are kept at a consistently high industry level standard.
We accredit TEFL/TESL/TESOL certification programs in the US and around the world. Accredited ACTEFLC providers represent a range of organizations from 4-week onsite certification course programs to 40-hour entry-level online certification course programs.

The ACTEFLC Board of Directors has voted to move forward with virtual program reviews for the 2021–2022 accreditation cycle, and all program reviews this cycle will be conducted remotely. This means ACTEFLC representatives will not physically visit schools but instead will conduct the reviews by means of video conference, electronic document management systems and email.
ACTEFLC successfully completed all scheduled virtual program reviews in the 2020–2021 accreditation cycle. Our staff and the Commission Executive Committees will continue to closely monitor the details of the virtual reviews to ensure the highest standard of integrity and quality.
